This blog was formerly dedicated in 2009 to my Dad who died of Alzheimer's in 2013. It's been three years now...and I find myself missing blogging...so I am re-inventing my blog... because, after all, life is about moving through, and going forward...

Oh hurry Spring...

I am on my second day of a sore throat.  I called my doctor to call something in to knock this bug out of me.  I got some of those Sudafed Cold and Cough pills, and I slept good last night...Sleeping is near impossible when I feel like I am swallowing a golf ball, each time I swallow!

Who knows how I got it...probably running outside in bare feet on windy, cold, rainy nights, chasing Izzy with a water bottle, trying to get her to STOP BARKING at everything that moves AT NIGHT!!!

I long for Spring.  I removed all the burlap off my plants and made an inventory of all the plants I have to replace in our front and back yard.  I have to get something BIG and FAST GROWING to place beside the street side of our house.  We need the privacy...(or whomever buys our house) and maybe it will hinder Izzy from barking if we cut off her view.

Yesterday, I awoke from a wonderful, couch nap, to the snarls and high pitched barking of a wild dog fight!!  Disoriented, drugged from the cold medicine, I stagger into the back patio, to find Izzy, nose to nose, through our fence, with TWO BOXERS!!  The owner was straining and yelling at her dogs to stop, attempting to pull them away from our fence.  I thought for sure, as I pulled Izzy away, I would find her bloody and missing an eye or her nose!!!  Thankfully, all were fine, but this little dog has got either a Napolean complex or is fearless, taking on two boxers for Pete's Sake!   A few months ago, she took on a Doberman Pincher in Pet Smart

I love Spring, but my allergies don't.  Maybe this sore throat is part of it. I have so much work to do and so many phone calls to make, and no energy to do it.  As soon as I get back my equilibrium, I will not even hit the floor running...

My husband left early this morning, as he left, I got up, let Izzy out of her crate and she ran outside, around to the side of the house.  My husband always walks over to the side of the house and Izzy is standing at the gate looking at him.  He waves to her and tells her he will see her tonight...we will see how she does...

Sorry to hear you've got the crud. I hope you get over that fast. I have known other little dogs that always want to take on the big dogs. I don't know what that is about, but I like your "Napolean complex" description. I hope things go well tonight when your husband comes home.

(Sorry if I sent this twice-the first time it told me it was a no-go).

Sorry about your cold. Wouldn't you think that in this day and age they would have something to make it stop hurting? I get them quite often because of my thyroiditis, and the egg in the throat feeling is the worst, plus the disorientation.

Izzy Izzy Izzy. In my experience, the barking is pretty much a no win situation in most cases, so good luck with that. The spray bottle loses its effectiveness pretty quickly. I tried the shock collar with Eva Jean, but if she really wanted to bark she did, and I felt horrible shocking her. So when you barks, I make her come in.

And you can't catch them when they're in that state as they don't hear you and become very focused on what they're barking at. Oliver is like a slippery eel, so I take the treat jar out and he'll come immediately, and I treat and praise him like crazy. If you yell and punish, you can be sure they won't come to you next time. You could try putting one of those long (15' or 20') leads on her when she's out back, and then when you need to catch her you can get the loose end and reel her in!

Terriers are tenacious in their relationship with other dogs, especially bigger ones, unless they have been socialized from an early age. How old did you say Izzy is? If they haven't had that socialization extensively, they can be brutal. And yes, they will attack a doberman, rottweiler or pit bull. In a worst case scenerio, such as at the pet store, consider a soft muzzle so that you can be relaxed, and he can get some socialization that way. Sometimes vets offices will let you just come and sit there for socialization! I wouldn't trust him with bigger dogs, Donna - really. Oliver (chihuahua) is the same way with bigger dogs.

And I don't know where those boxers came from, if they were running loose or what, but they would kill Izzy in a heartbeat under the right circumstances, especially if she is being aggressive and with there being two of them. Trust me on this one, as you know I have a boxer! Watch out for them if you're walking - carry a stick with you. Don't mean to scare you, but...

Sorry, I forgot I was writing a comment instead of an email. More later. Hope you feel better.

Oh, I forgot to say that I'm so ready for spring, too! I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with and seeing what your style is.
