Our Agent called us early this morning to tell us she had nothing else to show us. She encouraged us to consider the new home communtiy we had seen in Hemet. (We were so depressed with the resales we had seen yesterday, we stopped in to refresh our spirits, before winding up the day...)
The homes are built after purchase. They were priced $30,000 more than our budget. We noted the prices had dropped a good $5,000 since our last visit in September, 2009. The builder was offering a $20,000 incentive toward upgrades to use their lender, 1.5% toward closing costs and a $10,000 tax break if purchases as a primary residence between May 1 and December 31, 2010. If we purchased one, it would be ready in September....when my youngest daughter is due to deliver.
We were so depressed, I had the beginnings of a Migraine and my husband had a royal stomach ache. We both felt nauseous.
We had planned on coming home on Monday, but instead, decided to leave for Nevada today so my husband could have one day to relax before returning to work on Tuesday...
To say our house hunt was disappointing...would be an understatement.
When I checked our messages, we discovered we had one showing the entire 4 days we were gone...

We've got houses in our neighborhood that have been sitting empty for two years! Can only imagine what the passing of time and the mice (that we have from the field behind us) are doing them! It's amazing what people will do when that foreclosure becomes a reality,taking their anger and frustration with the bank and life out on their house.
first time commenting on your blog; just came across it within the last week or so. I live in the Temecula Valley of California. We are renting because we are very uncertain of the market and we're not sure we are going to stay here long term.
Occasionally we go to open houses just to see what is out there. A realtor said that the good houses available get snapped up very quickly by investors. She tries to find out what is available or going to be available through repossessions and schedule open houses before the houses officially hit the market in hopes of getting other people other than investors into homes. We look at houses that have been on the market for many months and we came to the conclusion that they had to be over priced or the investors would have purchased them already. It really is a sad market here; soooo many foreclosures, so many short sales.
I wish you luck in your endeavor in you do indeed want to return to California. We grew up here for the most part, left twice and returned twice. not sure if we will stay, though
