This blog was formerly dedicated in 2009 to my Dad who died of Alzheimer's in 2013. It's been three years now...and I find myself missing blogging...so I am re-inventing my blog... because, after all, life is about moving through, and going forward...

Update on Dad...

I called this morning to check on Dad and he was snoozing in his bed.  The nurse assured me he was much calmer and wanted to rest in bed.  His Angel, Doctor-Doctor is working today and will be assigned to him.  I know he will perk up when he sees her...

She also told me they put a note in his chart about the names Dad calls his Angel, so everyone knows what he is talking about.  One would think they all know what he means, but most of the staff, English is not there first language, and Dad really does not make much sense when he talks.  We, his family, have a vested interest in Dad and he is our only focus, where as the staff have many patients to care for.  I totally see how no one knew what he was talking about.... The important thing is, from now on, they will...

Wouldn't it be great if every place had enough staff for a one-on-one care system? At least now they'll know his angel...

Whew, another problem solved! Now, on to the next...whenever it rears it's ugly head! Never a dull minute in alzheimer land!

It is so much work when a parent or loved one is in a home like this and cannot communicate well. He is so lucky to have you watching over. It is so important. I do not remember how close you live to where he is at, but it never really seems close enough. I was 2 hours away and that was hard for me, but I had my 2 sisters close by for my Dad and my Mom. It is wonderful to build good communication with those that work there. Sometimes it feels as though you wish you could be there all of the time. It is not easy, but a lot harder if he was at home. Hang in there.

Darlene...I live 4 hours away in Nevada...about 250-300 miles...but it is the road to love. We do the best we can, with what we have to work with.
