This blog was formerly dedicated in 2009 to my Dad who died of Alzheimer's in 2013. It's been three years now...and I find myself missing blogging...so I am re-inventing my blog... because, after all, life is about moving through, and going forward...

He Is Healed!

I received a phone call from the wound care nurse this morning.  She told me Dad's pinkie toe wound is finally healed!!  I told her about the student nurse trying on some tennis shoes on him, and she said she would make sure there had been notes on his chart and on his closet.

I sent an email to the family, asking everyone to keep their eyes peeled in case Dad is wearing anything other than soft slippers, slipper socks or his foam booties.

I have been extremely frustrated with the staff of the nursing home in helping me connect with my Dad.  It has been more and more difficult to get anyone to interrupt his activities to bring him to the phone.  When I have to keep calling back, I get more frustrated when they ask me to call back after lunch, when Dad is almost always taking a nap.  Calling after dinner is always negative, so I refrain from doing it.  I will talk with the charge nurse when we are in CA this week and I visit Dad.

We have back to back visits between this week and then Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Lots to do in between.

The news of his wound finally healing made my day and is such a relief...

I know you have been frustrated about not being able to reach your dad for a while. I hope you can get something figured out while you are there. Good to know the wound is healed.

That is great news! I think speaking to the charge nurse is a good plan. Sometimes talking in person works better.

That is great news! I agree talk to the head nurse. I am sure you know when it is best to talk to your dad and that's when you call and they should be kind enough to give him the phone.
