This blog was formerly dedicated in 2009 to my Dad who died of Alzheimer's in 2013. It's been three years now...and I find myself missing blogging...so I am re-inventing my blog... because, after all, life is about moving through, and going forward...

On the mend...

Dad is gaining some strength back with his physical therapy.  He is back in the wheel chair and going to the dining room for meals.  I am so proud of him!

Having another one of those days where every time I call, he is in getting cleaned up, napping or eating...don't really want to talk to him later in the day, due to his Sundowners syndrome...

Just very happy he is making such great progress and is on the mend...

It sounds like your dad really is making a good recovery from his fall. I'm sorry you didn't get to talk to him....that has to be frustrating, but it sounds like they are keeping him busy.

Hi Betty. Sundowners syndrome describes the aggitated, change of behavior a lot of dementia/Alzheimer's patients and some elderly, when the sun begins to set. Often chemical changes in the blood pressure or glucose levels after eating can trigger aggitation or irritability. Often they don't see or hear well, so the night time makes them more paranoid and crabby because they can't see or think they see things. If you ever go into a nursing home (or a psych ward) in the early evening...you will hear a lot of yelling, screaming, cussing, and carrying on. It is not a good time to visit.

Jeanie: He really is amazing. I have always been a fast healer too, thank goodness. I will try again tomorrow in the morning to talk with Dad.
