This blog was formerly dedicated in 2009 to my Dad who died of Alzheimer's in 2013. It's been three years now...and I find myself missing blogging...so I am re-inventing my blog... because, after all, life is about moving through, and going forward...

The Quiet Man...

Mom and my sister went to visit Dad today. They interrupted the Pastor conducting the church services, but Dad didn't seemed to mind.  He was happy to see them both.  They wheeled him out through the double security doors to the lounge.  They were pleased to hear the alarm sound when they pushed Dad through the doors.  Dad had two alarms, one on his ankle and one on his wheel chair.

My sister Holly showed Dad pictures of her daughter's travels in Washington DC and Texas and then played Tic Tack Toe with Dad on her iPad.  Mom and Holly both noticed Dad was not his usual talkative, jovial self and was very quiet...

My sister took a picture of Dad...his eye looks terrible.

After visiting awhile, it was time for Dad to eat his lunch.  They wheeled him into the lunch room to a delicious lunch of barbecued chicken, french fries, beans, cucumber salad, jello, ice cream, two glasses of milk, supplement shake and coffee.  Doctor-Doctor mixed Dad's coffee just the way Dad likes it and gave it to Dad.  As usual, Dad drank it all in one gulp, telling her how perfect and delicious it was...

Doctor-Doctor informed Mom and Holly that "Pickles" would be accompanying Dad on the transport to his eye appointment next week on Friday, the 20th.

Mom gave a big jug of Aveeno lotion to the nurses station to keep for Dad for his skin care, as Dad's "skin angel" had requested more as she ran out.  This lotion has absolutely transformed Dad's rough skin.

After lunch, Dad's eyes began to flap.  Holly asked if he was ready for a nap and Dad nodded saying he was very sleepy.  As they started to wheel him back to his room, Doctor-Doctor offered to take Dad to his room and get him ready for bed....

Kisses and hugs were given and more kisses blown from the door way, as is my sister's and Dad's custom...

Mom and Holly went to Marie Callenders for lunch afterward and enjoyed more time together...

Glad one of his favorite staff members will be with him at the appt. I'm anxious to hear what the Dr says.

There is something in the way you wrote this that went all the way to the core of me. I just found the tears sliding down my face. It's not a bad thing, really.

I've been offline in terms of reading for far too long and catching up to several of your dad stories at once made me so aware of your oh-so-gentle touch in every story.

May the week be gentle with him. With your mom. With YOU. Oh, yes. With YOU.
